Translational models

The CCM ABCD is characterized by its close interdisciplinary networking of basic and translational research to improve and develop novel treatment methods. The cross-site translation of basic scientific findings to standardized and disease-relevant in vivo models forms a cornerstone and the methodological foundation of the consortium. Our particular focus is on achieving the highest possible standards that meet both scientific requirements and ethical principles.

Genetic and surgical models are (further) developed and used in state-of-the-art experimental facilities in collaboration with clinicians, scientists and veterinarians. This approach is supported by core facilities within the framework of the SFB 259 "Aortic disease".

The standardized implementation of different models of aortic and heart valve diseases allows the collection and evaluation of experimental data across sites with consistently high validity and reproducibility of the models. In addition, state-of-the-art analysis methods such as longitudinal imaging using ultrasound, MRI and CT ensure the highest scientific standards. The harmonious combination of resources and the combined expertise of our community make us a leading player in this field. This methodical collaboration ensures a comprehensive investigation of the pathophysiology and therapeutic approaches to cardiovascular disease, enabling us to develop innovative solutions for clinical translation.
