Basic research

Scientific breakthroughs and clinical investigations are of crucial importance for the development and improvement of new treatment methods for cardiovascular diseases. The CCM ABCD, a consortium of four university hospitals, creates an ideal platform for the exchange of knowledge, access to extensive patient groups and the use of concentrated expertise. At all four locations, the heart specialists are embedded in outstanding research environments that promote a close link between basic scientific findings and clinical practice. Two transregional collaborative research centers have already been established to further intensify this exchange. The aim of these efforts is to rapidly translate scientific findings into clinical applications.

The joint research projects focus on the following three areas:

  1. Aortic aneurysm: Research and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for diseases of the aorta.
  2. Valvular heart disease: Innovations in the treatment and prevention of valvular heart disease.
  3. Metabolism: Investigation of the links between metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases.
